Dwight Eisenhower didn't like the convertible roof of the 1950 Lincoln Cosmopolitan that had served Harry Truman, and according to Ford the president complained that people lining a parade route in Richmond, Va., couldn't see him. In 1954, a clear 'bubble roof' was fitted, well before the days of the Porsche Targa.
